We acknowledge the sacred and unique land we stand on is the traditional territory of Anishinabek, Huron-Wendat, and Métis Nations.

We recognize that Toronto, where the majority of our work begins and takes place, is covered by Treaty 13, signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit River. We honour this meeting place and home to many diverse Indigenous people and cultures from across Turtle Island long before European settlers and outsiders colonized, brutalized, and exploited what is currently known as Canada.

While we continue to learn more about this critical and horrific part of history and how the legacy of colonialism remains present, we stand in solidarity with Land and Water Defenders across Turtle Island and the Indigenous People of Southern Ontario and beyond. As uninvited settlers and beneficiaries of colonialism, we act on our will to decolonizing ourselves, acting in solidarity with Indigenous communities, learning the histories of the land, and unlearning the histories and practices of the colonial gaze. We also honour and remember the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and commit to holding governments accountable to act on the Calls to Action. These Calls for Justice represent important ways to end genocide and erasure and to transform systemic and societal values that have worked to maintain colonial violence.

We also acknowledge the many people of African descent who were and are not settlers—but whose ancestors were forcibly displaced as part of the transatlantic slave trade, brought against their will, and made to work on these lands in unjust and traumatic conditions. We believe that as Black and brown people who experience racism on these stolen lands, all liberation is bound up with Indigenous Sovereignty; therefore, we do not condone nonreciprocal healing and justice.

We are grateful to Indigenous Peoples for their continuous kinship and care with Mother Nature and are committed to learning to work in solidarity as accomplices in shifting the colonial default.
We are grateful to have the privilege to work and serve on this land with peace, respect, and a commitment to Truth and upholding Indigenous sovereignty and safety.
