This event is taking place on the unceded, traditional, and ancestral territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples. BIO
Rochelle Ford-Wilson (she/her) is a 30-something year-old wife, mother of 4 and Queen-Advocate for Working mothers world-wide. With a 12+ year career within Talent Acquisition and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, she also is a certified Life, Career & Well-being Coach and inspirational voice in women’s empowerment space, especially for moms. Over the last decade, Rochelle has dedicated her life’s purpose to helping moms recreate their life with more intention, well-being and joy, by first reclaiming and embodying their inner Queen.

She resides in a small town outside of Toronto with her husband and 4 kids. You can often find her listening to an audiobook while running after one of her busy kids, playing Beyoncé tunes full-blast in her car or having an epsom salt bath with a glass of wine when the kids are asleep!

BIO
Arezoo is a community builder, an advocate, and a friend. Known for her leadership and advocacy for women’s meaningful civic participation, she continues to support her peers and organizations like GOOD TO BE GOOD in building prosperous futures for diverse women and their communities. With a decade of experience in working with Black, Indigenous, and racialized young women and queer youth, Arezoo brings a breadth of knowledge on co-creating spaces that center intersectionality and mutual support .

While we could go on about her professional accolades, Arezoo prefers to be remembered for her dedication to her friends, her love for exercise (it’s all about the gains), and her passion for all things Persian!

The Change Make-Her program is launching its 5th C

The Change Make-Her program is launching its 5th Cohort, and YOU could be a part of it! 🎉

This FREE interactive virtual program is for women and gender-diverse folks interested in developing their entrepreneurship and leadership skills through mentorship-based training workshops, community building, peer support, resource-sharing, and other opportunities. The program is designed to broaden the horizons for new and emerging entrepreneurs using a low-barrier, trauma-informed, inclusive, and caring approach.

💡 Each session empowers participants with the fundamentals of growing a micro or small business or income-generating venture in the mainstream economy on their terms while connecting them with entrepreneurs and industry experts in the community who are ready to share their knowledge and experiences.

But that’s not all: participants can access other benefits such as curated resources, wraparound supports (technology and internet, coping devices and tools), and coordinated peer support. Successful participants can receive up to $300 in micro-grants for their entrepreneurial needs!

We believe that entrepreneurialism can be a meaningful pathway to confidence, community, and independence for women and gender-diverse people, especially for those facing multiple barriers.

As we look forward to International Women’s Day next month, it’s clear that the journey toward genuine gender equality is still ongoing.

Every woman and gender-diverse person has the right to feel safe, valued, empowered, and connected at all times.

This community event and market showcase is our annual gathering to mark #IWD2024. “I think it was very important for the Peer Support Group to meet our participants in person. We realized our participants sometimes need to meet in person to be available to do different things and go out of the routine. Our activity at the @textilemuseumofcanada was amazing for that experience.” - Natalia, Community Worker

Did you know that our Peer Support Groups are monthly sessions offered as part of our Peer Support Services? These sessions are no-cost, run throughout the year, and are conducted online with utmost care and safety. We aim to create a supportive, non-judgemental, and empathetic space for participants to enhance healing, recovery, and a sense of belonging—a place to share experiences and resources that impact mental health and validate peers, regardless of their circumstances.

The monthly program has expanded to include support groups featuring guest speakers, a focus on wellness activities, peer participant engagement, and in-person workshops and events that foster connection and community, such as our wonderful beading class at The Textile Museum.

In November, a peer participant and our community member, Angela, helped facilitate our monthly, virtual group, the November session on Self Care during the Holidays. Angela is an incredible advocate for the importance of self-care, self-worth, and resilience. She bravely shared her story with our community, offering insights and wisdom gained through her experiences as a daughter, mother, care-giver, and friend.

She bravely shared her life experiences and the learnings she has developed in facing life’s difficulties. She is characterized by being empathetic, enthusiastic and with a great sense of community.

We’re honored to have worked alongside Angela as she prepared for her facilitation. We welcome our peer community members to join our space in any way they wish to show up, as participants and facilitators. Either way, our peer community leads social change in the ways they collaborate and support each other. We are deeply thankful for Angela and her support as a Peer Facilitator.

PROGRAM MANAGER
The Program Manager is pivotal in planning, executing, and overseeing one of our main upskilling programs to ensure successful delivery within our frameworks, scope, time, and budget. PM will collaborate with cross-functional team members, lead strategic initiatives, facilitate and coordinate group and individual sessions, and support the unfolding of organizational and programmatic objectives.

$30-$35/hr, 5-month remote contract with the possibility of extension, TBD February start date until July. Must commit 35-40 hours/month.

We seek someone in our communities with experience in managing grassroots or nonprofit initiatives who can thrive in flexible yet growing environments and are interested in building from the ground up. They should embody feminist/equity-centred values and practices and demonstrate a dedication to breaking down systemic barriers while fostering the empowerment of diverse women and gender-diverse people affected by injustices. We value lived experiences and welcome applications from all types of leaders, organizers, visionaries, advocates, workers, and builders to join our team as we grow together.

We also seek a WORKSHOP FACILITATOR for an 8-week group-based program. The facilitator wears many hats: planning, guiding, and leading focused workshop modules and adjunct sessions to ensure a meaningful program delivery for participants in our priority communities.

Start: Late February | Hourly rate: $35 - $38 | Position: Contract, remote | Commitment: 3-5 hours per week

While the world faces many challenges—disproportionately affecting women, girls, and gender-diverse beings—we are grateful for the GOOD TO BE GOOD community of supporters and allies like you, who, for 7 years now, have contributed to keeping our work accessible to community members in need of support.

Over 150 women and gender-diverse individuals have directly accessed our programs and services and have been embraced by a caring community that helped them feel equal, empowered, safe, and ultimately able to thrive. And when women thrive, communities thrive, and at large: societies thrive!
Many have attested that it was the care and deep sense of inclusion they felt in our programs that honored their capacity to move forward and defy the odds.

There are stories of women who accessed our entrepreneurship capacity program, Change Make-Her, navigating systemic barriers to income that later gained financial independence and expanded their impact. And stories of community members who came to us for peer support and connection, now leading monthly groups to help others with similar circumstances. None of the successes could have happened without the solidarity and invaluable contributions that underpin this community.

As we enter 2024, the needs are enormous, but the opportunities are available to us as well. With an incredible team of mission-driven dedicated and caring team members, volunteers, and partners, we are steadfast in our hope that we can make equity and progress happen more than ever before in the new year.

It’s been over a month since we launched our Empowered Women Elevate Communities holiday campaign.

Our campaign goal was to enter 2024 with the resources needed to confront the challenges we face head-on. Our aim remains the same: to think big despite what we’ve been told by society and institutions, build powerful, and community-centric intersectional solutions that uplift diverse women and gender-diverse people indefinitely.

We want to extend our thanks to everyone who backed our Empowered Women Elevate Communities campaign and supported us in 2023. And thank every person who sent us encouraging wishes, reshared posts, made space for women and gender-diverse people, celebrated our collective, and who dreamed with us.

The GTBG team is smaller than most national nonprofit organizations — but we’re mighty and even mightier with community. In everything we do, we see how much we can accomplish when we come together!

We know that the safety of our Israeli neighbours cannot exist without true protection and freedom for our Palestinian neighbours. A world with lasting safety for all is needed more than ever. At a time of celebrations around the world, let us continue to be radically kind and gentle with those mourning the ongoing sufferings or are finding it difficult. We love you. 💙

Thanks to all who contributed to our Holiday Care Kit distribution! We provided over 1,800 new essentials, including pajamas, toiletries, underwear, baby items, and warm winter clothing to community members who access our programs. We also supplied over 100 packages with thousands of essentials to local partners nationwide.

A community member expressed, “It is so special to receive NEW items!” Some even shared their holiday kit items generously with others in their social circle.

While our year-round programmatic focus is on moving equity forward, we all share a passion for organizing holiday initiatives that reignite the spirit of loving our neighbours. Whether it’s supplying vital resources, nurturing kindness among ourselves, or cultivating a sense of belonging, we can achieve wonderful things together.

We believe in creating a just and kind world, starting with women and gender-diverse people. Despite constant outright underrepresentation and insufficiency of protections and investment, women and gender-diverse people show extraordinary brilliance, courage, intelligence, leadership, and heart. They’re the source and location of justice and equity. If women have what they need to improve circumstances, and if we cease to tolerate violence and discrimination against them, they can serve as catalysts for transforming communities—an urgent reason to ensure equal access to opportunities, rights, and power.

Just look around: it’s happening every day in all corners. We need to keep going because equitable, kinder societies won’t happen on their own. 🌎💪
