OUR VALUES

Our organizational commitments and how we lead with our values.

WE KEEP US SAFE

At GOOD TO BE GOOD, we believe that justice, equity, and inclusion aren’t just words—they’re part of how we show up every day.

Our team includes people with lived experience from equity-denied communities. These experiences shape our work, how we lead, and how we care for each other and our community.

We’re committed to building a world where everyone belongs. That means creating spaces that honour diverse identities, listen to lived experiences, and centre the wisdom of those most affected by injustice.

We carry forward the work of those who came before us—movements that fought for liberation, dignity, and safety. Their courage inspires us. We are grateful for their path, and we’re committed to continuing the work with care and intention.

This commitment shows up in every part of our work—from who we hire and partner with, to the stories we uplift and the systems we push to change. We’re not just imagining a better world—we’re helping to build it, together.

From Equity to Equality

Equity means more than fairness—it means actively removing the barriers that keep people from accessing the support and opportunities they deserve. At GOOD TO BE GOOD, we work to expand access to our programs, services, and advocacy for communities impacted by gender inequality.

We focus especially on supporting women and gender-diverse people from underserved communities. Together, we harness the power of community and solidarity to disrupt systems of oppression.

As a BIPOC-led and founded nonprofit, we are deeply committed to representation and inclusion. We work to reflect the communities we serve in every part of our organization—from our leadership and team to our partners and collaborators.

This means intentionally creating space for Black, Indigenous, and Racialized (BIR) individuals and groups who have been excluded from decision-making roles. We believe our greatest strength is in our people—and we are a part of the communities we serve.

Taking Action to Advance Equity & Inclusion

As a small but mighty team, we are always learning, evolving, and taking action to live our values.

Some of the ways we do this include:

  • Peer sponsorship and leadership support
  • Amplifying marginalized voices
  • Community-led collaboration
  • Creating pathways to leadership and decision-making

We hold ourselves accountable to doing this work with care, humility, and integrity—always working toward a more just, inclusive, and equitable world.

Equity isn’t just a value—it’s how we lead, work, and support one another.

Our team includes individuals with lived experience from equity-seeking communities. We’re committed to increasing the leadership of women of colour and people from historically excluded groups across all parts of our organization.

We actively challenge systems of oppression like racism, sexism, ableism, and transphobia—and we know our work is ongoing.

Our commitments include:

  • Reviewing programs and practices through an equity lens
  • Uplifting Black, Indigenous, and marginalized voices
  • Investing in the leadership of BIPOC and gender-diverse staff
  • Partnering with equity leaders to strengthen our approach

OUR GUIDING VALUES

Values form the foundation of how we interact and work together.

Our core values are rooted in universal principles that guide our commitments, connections, and practices. They energize our ways of being, helping us persevere and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we care about.

Shared values are at the heart of who we are, what we do, and how we do it. These values serve as the standards by which all organizational decisions are made and embodied, guiding us in delivering effective and compassionate services and support. We model a values-based culture by upholding these standards—not only as reflections of our current work but also as aspirations for how we grow and engage with one another.

We believe compassion is a powerful force that can meaningfully connect us to one another—and to ourselves. It’s available to everyone, deepens our understanding of our shared humanity, and has the potential to inspire meaningful action.

Radical love is a political act.

We believe radical love is central to justice movements because it demands the liberation of all people. It calls us to resist dehumanization, to hold space for both grief and joy, and to lead with empathy, accountability, and care. Rooted in collective healing and solidarity, radical love is not passive—it’s a powerful force that challenges injustice and sustains those working toward lasting change.

Solidarity over charity.

We challenge traditional models of philanthropy and charity that reinforce saviourism and uphold unequal power dynamics. Instead, we root our work in a “solidarity over charity” approach—one that centres shared purpose, collective care, and justice.

This means actively unlearning colonial, white-centric, and top-down ideas of giving, and reimagining what it means to show up for one another. By practicing solidarity, we work with communities—not for them—building power together and reducing the risk of replicating the very harms we aim to dismantle.

Equity is a guiding principle.

At GOOD TO BE GOOD, equity means committing to fairness in both personal relationships and systemic change. It’s woven into the fabric of how we work—shaping our responsibilities, actions, and everyday interactions.

We centre the experiences of women and gender-diverse people who are often marginalized, underfunded, underinvested and undervalued, and made vulnerable by systems of oppression. Their voices, leadership, and lived realities are central to how we design and deliver our programs, services, and advocacy.

Our approach is intersectional and grounded in respect. We recognize the value of lived experience and the strength it brings. By engaging communities with humility and care, we move closer to realizing true equity—for everyone.

Power demands responsibility. Responsibility requires accountability.

We believe that with the power to decide and take action comes the responsibility to own the impact of those choices. Accountability isn’t optional—it’s essential.

We are committed to naming and confronting the root causes and expressions of social injustice. This means actively working to dismantle harmful systems, understanding our own roles within them, and being answerable to the communities we serve and work alongside.

We create space for reflection, dialogue, and learning—because building accountability also means supporting agency, responsibility, and self-determination at every level.

We are part of something bigger.

GOOD TO BE GOOD exists within a larger, interconnected movement for gender equity. We work alongside communities—not apart from them—to advance our shared mission and support others doing this vital work.

Through collaboration with community members, volunteers, and partners, we actively address gender inequities and foster compassion-led change. Our goal is to help realize the human rights of all women and gender-diverse people—locally and systemically.

Community is not just part of our work—it’s the foundation. We believe fostering meaningful connection is essential to transformative justice, collective healing, and sustainable change.

Together with diverse communities and grassroots movements, we are committed to learning, supporting, and being guided by those on the front lines of dismantling systems of white supremacy, patriarchy, and colonialism. This is how we honour the wisdom already within our communities—and build toward a more just future.
